Privacy
No accounts, no adverts. Here’s what this site keeps, and how to turn analytics off.
Analytics are on
We count visits and quiz plays to see how the quiz is doing. Only the totals, never you in particular.
What we count
We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, and how many start, finish and share each week’s quiz. That tells us whether the quiz is working and what to improve. We only look at totals.
It records the pages you view, those quiz moments (with the week, and your score when you share it), the site that sent you, your browser and device type, and your rough location, worked out from your IP address without storing the address.
UK law allows analytics like this without asking first, as long as it only produces statistics to improve the site, nobody is tracked or profiled, and you can say no at any time. You can, above. Your browser’s Global Privacy Control setting works too.
On your device
- ponder-weekly:v1:…
- Your progress in each quiz, so you can come back to it. It never leaves your device.
- _ga, _ga_YJFFJC6NYY
- Google Analytics cookies, kept for a year, so a return visit isn’t counted as a new visitor.
- ponder-weekly:v1:sent:…
- Which quiz moments this browser has already counted, so none is counted twice.
- ponder-analytics
- Only if you turn analytics off: remembers that you did.
Google’s part
Google runs Google Analytics for us as our processor, under its data processing terms. Its advertising features and Google signals are off, and we don’t share the data with Google for its own purposes. Google keeps the detailed records for two months; after that, only totals remain. It may handle the data outside the UK, under its safeguards for international transfers.
Your rights
We rely on legitimate interests: knowing how the quiz is used so we can make it better. You can object at any time (the switch above does that), and you can ask to see or delete data about you by emailing privacy@ponderweekly.com. We don’t know who you are, so to find anything we may need the ID from your _ga cookie. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
Who we are
The Ponder Weekly Quiz is run by Bryce Altman, who is responsible for this data. Questions: privacy@ponderweekly.com.
